What we do
|
Your friendly and courteous Guidance staff is excited to work with you. All counselors hold professional membership in the Pennsylvania School Counselor Association and are members of the Lancaster County School County Association branch. In addition our counselors hold Master's Degrees in Education with a certification in School Counseling. Each counselor's office is located adjacent to the the main office in the high school. Your counselor works within their alphabet span of high school students, grades 9-12 in the areas of Academic Planning, Career Coordination, and Personal/Social Development. Counselors also work to monitor graduation requirements, course selection, and provide lessons within the classroom. Set up an appointment today to meet with your counselor and discuss your options for life after high school!

Solanco Virtual Academy (SVA)
|
Lancaster County Career and Technology Center (CTC)
|
The Solanco Virtual Academy (SVA) allows students the flexibility to attend classes in the brick and mortar setting as well as in the virtual setting. Successful SVA students are learners who have the motivation and drive to work on their own pace and complete school work independently. The SVA platform is student-driven and teacher supported. If you think you would be a good applicant to be an SVA student, schedule an appointment with your counselor to discuss this as an option. After your meeting, you may apply using the application link below.

Students who wish to participate in a program offered by the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center (CTC) may do so once entering their junior or senior year. In place of a senior year schedule, a student will receive a Math and English class through the CTC as well as five elective credits from their program of choice. Students will visit the CTC in the FALL and apply for programs by the end of the first semester. Students are encouraged to speak with their counselor or request more information from the CTC website about possible program requirements. Click the link below for more information:

Dual Enrollment
Dual enrollment is a a program that allows students to earn both college and high school credits. Solanco High School has partnered with Millersville University, HACC, Lancaster Bible College, Stevens Tech, Cecil College, and Penn State. Eligibility is determined by the college, but the student should meet several important factors first. They should have a minimum 3.0000 GPA. Colleges will determine readiness based on counselor/principal recommendation, available standardized testing data like the PSAT, generic academic information found in a high school transcript, and/or an interview with the student. Set up a meeting to talk with your counselor if you are interested in learning more information.
Educational Planning Guide
The Educational Planning Guide provides insight into each course offered in the high school on a year to year basis. The included text provides insight into what courses are grade appropriate, course requirements, and a set of policies in place for senior options that include Dual Enrollment, Internships, and Work Study just to name a few. This document is essential during Course Selection. Ask your counselor for a copy of this year's guide when scheduling courses.
